This Japanese woodblock print is a reproduction of a striking design by 月岡芳年 Tsukioka Yoshitoshi (1839–1892), from his celebrated series One Hundred Aspects of the Moon (Tsuki Hyakushi).
The figure depicted is Shi Jin, known in Japan as Kumonryū Shishin — the “Nine-Dragon” warrior from the Chinese classic Water Margin.
His name comes from the nine dragons tattooed across his body.
But Yoshitoshi does not show him in the chaos of battle.
Instead, the warrior sits quietly beneath a willow tree on a summer night. His robe falls open, revealing the elaborate dragon tattoos across his chest and arms, while the moon appears through the branches above.
Strength and silence exist in the same image.

Tsukioka Yoshitoshi was one of the most important artists of the final generation of ukiyo-e.
A pupil of the celebrated Utagawa Kuniyoshi, Yoshitoshi became known for his dramatic warrior scenes, supernatural subjects, historical narratives, beautiful women, and psychologically charged compositions.
His late masterpiece, One Hundred Aspects of the Moon, brought together stories from Japanese and Chinese history, literature, legend, and folklore through one recurring image: the moon.
The series remains one of the defining achievements of Yoshitoshi’s career.

刺青をまとった武者。九匹の龍。そして、静かな月夜。
月岡芳年（1839–1892）の代表的な連作『月百姿』の一図をもとにした、日本の複製木版画です。
描かれているのは、中国の古典小説『水滸伝』に登場する豪傑、史進。
日本では「九紋龍史進（くもんりゅう ししん）」として知られる人物です。
その名の由来は、身体に彫られた九匹の龍の刺青。
しかし、芳年は彼を激しい戦いの中には描きませんでした。
夏の夜、柳の下に静かに座る史進。
大きくはだけた衣からは、胸や腕を覆う龍の刺青が姿を現し、その頭上には枝の間から月が浮かびます。
強さと静けさが、一枚の中に共存しています。
荒々しい龍を身体にまとった伝説的な武人を、暴力の瞬間ではなく、静寂の中に描く。
その対比こそが、この作品を印象的なものにしています。
