This reproduction is based on one of Katsushika Hokusai’s most powerful views of Japan’s sacred mountain: “Rainstorm Beneath the Summit” (Sanka Hakuu / 山下白雨), from the legendary series Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji.
Created around 1831, the composition presents Mount Fuji rising almost immovably across the entire image.
Above, the summit stands calm beneath an open sky.
Below, dark clouds gather around the mountain and a single bolt of lightning cuts violently across its base.
The contrast is simple — and unforgettable.
The storm lasts only a moment.

Hokusai turns a landscape into something almost symbolic: permanence against change, stillness against chaos, strength against uncertainty.
